I had assumed it would be easy to remove subscription for those who did so last year and spare you new blog posts but looks like I was wrong.
If you subscribed to the blog via wordpress then you can discontinue through your dash board. If you subscribed via email and do not have a wordpress account, I have emailed wordpress contact and hopefully your subscriptions will be removed (if you can remove yourself, please feel free to do so).
(Update: 8/28) I still have not heard back from wordpress folks but if you subscribed to the posts by email and want to get off you should be able to do so via this subscription management page.
(Folks in the Fall 2011 offering: please hold off on email subscription for now.)
